We need to protect our future!

Hi again,

I wasn't planning to post again so soon but couldn't stop thinking about what I saw on the news yesterday and is now everywhere I look on Facebook.

The sad part is, it is happening all the time and not just too young people.  I love this age but it causes problems that didn't exist a few years ago. It was bad enough than when information couldn't be passed around the world in a few seconds.

Today kids are learning how to use cell phones and computers before they are really taught the damage they can do.  All the time on the news we see things kids have done, fights at school and away from school, sex-ting,  videos of things most of us older people wouldn't even think of doing and not just stupid stunts.

There are a lot of young people (and adults) who believe they can do or say whatever they want without fear of repercussions, or all they will get is a slap on the wrist.  Once it is done on the internet it really can’t be undone, someone somewhere has the information.  I am sure there are many out there that probably wish they hadn't done something, or told some terrible thing about someone after the fact but too late to stop what has been set in motion.

The sad part is most “grown-ups” don’t believe this could happen to them or their children.  It only happens to people who live “bad” life styles or my kids know better than that.  Or they are just having fun or joking.  “Kids will be kids” is very common too.

Kids today are under so much pressure, for example how they look, how much money they have, if they even have a cell phone or laptop.  How long they can stay out or who parents are the coolest, who allows their kids to stay out the latest or go and do things without supervision.  Who has a girlfriend/boyfriend?  How far have they gone sexually? Do well in school or you will not get into I good college, get a good job.  There is a list so long it isn’t funny.  A lot of the pressures we remember from our teens but they effect younger children now.

Kids are very smart, learn fast but they do not have the all the knowledge or restraint to use a lot of the tools available to them (not just kids some adults as well).

Peer pressure can destroy a young person “everyone is doing it, I will not show it to anyone else”, in fact in can destroy an adult as well.

We have to teach children that what you do and say can affect the rest of your life.

We have to teach them not to treat others like they are nothing. (Not just other kids but adults as well.)

We have to teach them “To do unto others what you wish unto you”.

As you probably already guessed what I heard on the news “Amanda Todd’s Death”

Amanda's Video

That shows exactly what I am talking about.  She made a mistake.  We all do.  What happened to protecting her, stopping the original bully- blackmailer?  And the other kids at the first school?

Is this what we want to teach them, that if you make a mistake everyone has the right to treat you like crap?  What happened to understanding?  Learn from others mistakes?

They say there are laws in place to stop bullying in any form.  Where are they?

Say you stop a bully in school, what happens when he/she isn't a school?  It is amazing what you see when you look around you.  How many kids do you know who are bothered in or out of school?  Things taken or destroyed?  Threatened?  Or they go home and on their computer the harassment is continued there?  Are they being punished?

Sure some of these bullys turn into wonderful adults because they learned young that what they were doing was wrong.

But the rest turn into adults with the knowledge of how to get around the laws.  And you can be sure they are going after adults, not children hopefully.  Bullying is a crime that never really stops and can turn into far more serious crimes.

I just hope that people will realize that something has to be done and actually do something about it.  Young people are our future!  They will be making/changing our laws.  They will decide what our world will be like.  Don't we want a future of peace and understanding?  A safe world?

Well that is my opinion and I just needed to get it out there.  Maybe get people to look around; we need to protect our future!

Thanks for listening,

Wolves and Music

Two of my favorite things!!!

Hello all!

I have added some new pictures to “Beauty Around Me”.  They were taken by a friend of mine of her dog, Missy and friends, plus a few others.  I hopefully will be adding more to this page in the near future.

Also have added a link gadget on the right for easy access to sites I have mentioned etc.

I am still learning how to work the pages and other features on them so please be patient with me.  One good thing is I learn fast. J

I was reading a post from one of the people I follow and found this article:

It makes you wonder why they bother to do anything if all they intend to do is the opposite in the end. I can’t even explain how this makes me feel.  The first thing that pops into my head is, did they put these wolves somewhere where there was enough food?  Why did they go after the cattle?  Guess I will never know.

Okay one more thing before I go for now.  I heard a woman sing yesterday that I would like to share with you.  Her name is Linda Law.  She has a very beautiful voice and I love her style.  You can hear her yourself at this link:

Here is her Google page and you can follower her too.

I am sure you will in joy her music too.  I have put a link to her music on my blog titled “Linda Law's Music”.   This way you can always find it. J

Well I guess I will go for now.  Have a great day!!

Thanks for your time!

Well good news!  TJ was adopted October 10, 2012!!

As some of you may have noticed I have added a new page:  My Sister’s Wonderful Pictures.

Not only does she have a great eye!  She has the patience, to get the pictures of her backyard visitors.  Hopefully will be adding more for you soon, I hope you enjoy them!  She has done more travelling then I have so she has some nice pictures to share.

Since I am not really feeling any better this one will be short.
I do have a new cat looking for a home.  He I around 4 yrs. old, neutered and I believe his shots also.  This pet also is eligible for 30 days of pre-paid pet health insurance.  This is Ziggy:

So please share if you can on Facebook maybe someone in my area will see it and take him home!  I am finding these cats at the volunteer Cat shelter at the mall in the city I live in.  They have cats and dogs on their web page.

Well I have to go I want to check a few more pages before bed.  Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow!  If you have a site that you think I would be interested in please let me know.

Thanks for your time,

I Love this Age

Hello again.  I have added some new pictures; they are not anywhere near as good as I have seen on other blogs and pages but I did take them myself and with a smart phone.  I like the idea I can take a picture whenever I want without having to carry a camera.  I love smart phones you can do almost anything with them even read!

Although I don’t use mine to read have a Kobo and a Coby; Kyros (7” Ice Cream Sandwich w/os 4.0 powered by Android), for that.  It is amazing what we can take with us when we leave the house.

I can now take all my CDs (music), and all my pictures plus over 700 assorted books and a few different games (without any need for the internet just a source of power to charge up).  That is great for people like me who can’t just sit and do nothing.  I have access to all my emails and anything on the internet (except I can’t play Farmville like I do at home).  And all it weights to this with me is about 5 lbs including cords for connecting to power and another PC.  My laptop and notebook stay at home.  If I wanted to connect to them all I have to do is allow access on them but I don’t need to I have everything I need already.

Who would have thought that would be possible even 20 years ago?
I love this age.  Another great thing about this age is we can share information faster and to more people than ever before.

Well I have a few things I need to do.  Today’s cause I received from a friend of mine I promised I would mention it here for her.  It is “Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park”.  Here is their Facebook page and description of them:

"Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park is home to the world's largest and most biologically significant collection of waterfowl, along with many other bird species. The Park also provides a natural wetlands habitat for local wildlife."

You might like to know that it looks like TJ found a home, he is no longer available.  I will go over tomorrow and confirm it.  I will check to see if another kitty needs some help.  :)

Well shall be back tomorrow.  Have a great day/night.

One of My Favorite Authors

Today I would like to talk about books.

A few years ago my girlfriend gave me a book called “Into the Wild” by Erin Hunter.  It was the first in a series called Warriors.  Now if you love reading and cats I would highly recommend this series.

Now Erin Hunter is not one person but four women.  Their writing style is the best I have seen in a long time.  The books are considered Fiction - Young Adult (about grade 5 and up).  But I find that the stories would appeal to adults too.  Their characters come to life; they make you laugh and cry.  Their insight into how they live as feral cats so unique that you are anticipating what will happen next and then amazed because that isn't what you expected.  They are very hard to put down once you started reading them.  After I read the one my girlfriend gave me, Into the Wild, I couldn't get to the book store fast enough to get the next one.  Needless to say I was buying two at a time so that I didn't have to wait to continue the story.  The details included in their books on the lives of these cats and thoughts and how they deal with everyday dangers is surprising.  It is as if they didn't miss anything.  Each book is different, centered on a different cat (clan)/quest.  Their struggles to survive in a world where humans are taking over their territories and their views on life will captivate you.

They have two series beside “Warriors” called “Survivors” about dogs (have not read this one yet next on my list) and “Seekers” about bears (I am on the third book of this one).

These books are great reads and if you have any young people in your life, these books would be great for all.  You can read and talk about the books with them, a great way of sharing with kids.  They make great gifts.  And in my eyes books are one of the greatest gifts you can give children (and adults).  Also a lot of these books are available as e-books for readers.

Here is the Warriors site for those interested.

Something I Saw...

Hi all! Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians out there!  Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at my sister’s today.  She is a wonderful cook.  Had all the trimmings plus she made 3 pies, apple, blueberry and pumpkin.  I am so full I couldn't eat any pie after dinner so she let me bring some home for later.
My sister has some wonderful pictures she has taken over the years of animals, flowers and scenery. I asked her for some that I may post here for you to see.  As soon as I get them I will make a page for them.  I believe you will enjoy them as much as I do.  She is better at photography then I am (plus she uses a real camera and not a cell phone like I do).  I have some of her pictures on my wall and everyone loves them.  Would love to blow a few up or if possible make wallpaper out of them, that’s how good they are. J
Today’s cause is something I saw On CHCH Hamilton a couple of weeks ago that might interest you.

Also if you didn't see yesterday’s cause for "TJ" please take a moment to read it and share, thank you.  I really would love to see him find a good home.

Well like most people I know, I have a cold, been feeling it coming for a few days now.  So today, my blog will be short.  I need to rest up and get better so I don’t miss any work.

Hope you enjoy my blog and pictures; please feel free to leave a comment.

Thank you

“For the Love of Life!”

Since I am going to continue to use this blog, I have decided to change the name to:  “For the Love of Life!” as a better title since it will be used for me personally.

A Little about Me and this Blog

How fitting that my first real blog is on my Birthday and Thanksgiving!
I am thankful that I have a wonderful family, true friends and I have found the love of my life (took a while but it was worth it!).  I work with wonderful people at a job I love.  I am thank for the roof over my head, a home that allows my pets.  I am thankful for the memories of those I have lost and the things they have taught me.

My two favorite sayings are (not sure of the authors)
Do unto others as you wish unto you
I complained I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet

I love animals; books, movies, music (almost any kind), crafts, writing and I love the electronic age that allows me to access information to learn more about the things I like and just for learning!  (plus allows me to play Farmville, been playing for 3 years now.)
I am bored easily; I always have to be doing something.  I read every day, thank god for e-readers and tablets!  I can read on my breaks at work and waiting for rides, waiting at appointments, in the car (I don’t drive) etc.  I will always love real books and still read them when I am home (I usually read at least 2 books at a time).  Right now reading Seekers 3: Smoke Mountain by Erin Hunter (Coby, Kyros 7” Tablet), Lasher by Ann Rice (Kobo Reader) and Feathered Serpent by Junius Podrug, book.
I love to learn and believe that we learn new things every day.
I believe everything happens for a reason.  There is a lot I wish never happened to me but would not change anything because then I wouldn’t be who I am today.
I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want as long as no living thing is hurt.
I believe in turning the other cheek, but realize that you soon run out of cheeks.  Do not believe in physical violence unless in self-defense or in defense of someone/something that can’t defend itself.
I want to use this blog to tell others about my thoughts on books etc. and to promote causes I believe in.
I hope you will come back to visit and share your thoughts.
Today’s cause is TJ, a cat that is looking for a home, I have met this cat a few times and wish I could take him but don’t think the 4 I have now would appreciate that.

Click the link for more info.  The above pic doesn't do him justice, below is some pics took the other day, check out his pretty tail:

Well I have to go for now.  I hope to see you again.  Feel free to leave a comment.  I will be adding more links later, about different subjects but it will take time for me to sort through them.  :)

Just a note:

Well looks like I will have to write my first blog later today.  It took longer than I thought to add the pictures.  So for those that are interested I will tell you a little about me and what I want to do with this blog.  So for enjoy the pictures. :-)
